Q. What is the major benefit of using ICF’s over alternative construction methodologies?
A: We choose ICF for the building envelopes because of the higher Effective R value that we can provide with the 3.3 block compared to conventional building. With the reduction of thermal loss through wood and not having to construct a thick wall out of wood construction we can save time using ICF along with building a more efficient and more comfortable home.
Q. Why did you choose Amvic ICF’s?
A: We have used many products for ICF but Amvic is leading the way with the 3.30 block which provide a better R Value in the industry and a much stronger block. Another advantage is the blocks are fully reversible which reduces product waste. By using other Amvic products with their ICF product creates a great system for high performance building envelopes.
“We are MCL Construction Ltd. a local custom home builder in Quispamsis New Brunswick and a Certified Master Builder of the Canadian Home Builders Association New Brunswick. We focus on energy efficiency and superior building techniques in our projects to provide a home that will last and be affordable to operate for the owner. Insulated concrete forms allow us to provide a much higher effective R-value in our building design along side a stronger structure. With warmer homes and superior air tightness we can provide superior comfort and operation of the homes we build. We achieved the construction of a Net Zero Home certification by using the ICF as our building envelope. ICFs reduce our time and labour in our basements and above walls because the insulating is completed while the blocks are put together. We don’t need to go back and complete that process like a conventional foundation or wood framed walls. We are leading the way with energy efficiency in our province and we continue to build and renovate homes that pay the customer back. We are provincial award winners and are finalist for the best Net Zero Home in Canada.”
