High performing and cost effective non-structural graphite polystyrene (GPS) rigid insulation board for exterior wall applications on wood or steel frame construction. The expanded polystyrene (EPS) core is embedded with graphite particles which increase the thermal performance, compared to conventional EPS.
In addition to the increased thermal resistance, the foam is laminated with a reflective film on both sides increasing board strength and flexibility, reducing site damage and waste. The reflective laminated surfaces are micro perforated giving the panel high water vapor permeance greatly reducing the likelihood of trapped moisture through the increased drying potential. The larger panels and laminated film help improve job site efficiency and reduce labor costs.
SilveRboard® Graphite XS can be used as the second plane of protection under exterior cladding when the joints are properly taped and sealed, eliminating the need for an additional membrane. The laminated film comes micro perforated by default (denoted by XS) but is also available without perforations by special order.
R-Value/inch | R4.43 (RSI 0.78) |
---|---|
Vapor Permeance | Perforated 2.74 US perms (157 ng/Pa.s.m2) Non- perforated 0.77 US perms (44 ng/Pa.s.m²) |
Both SilveRboard® 35XS and SilveRboard® Graphite XS are available in a wide range of thicknesses ranging from 1/2″ (13mm) to 6″ (152mm). Standard board dimensions include 4×8′ and 4×9′ (1.2×2.4m and 1.2×2.7m).
Achieve building code requirements and construction permits while remaining cost effective
Lightweight, flexible continuous insulation that provides a higher R-value per dollar and easy installation
Sustainable, innovative graphite continuous insulation that helps achieve building code requirements
Increase thermal comfort, energy efficiency and achieve a better insulated home
Graphite is the most stable form of carbon. It is naturally occurring and chemically inert. When embedded in the polymer matrix it acts as a reflector of radiant energy giving the material its distinct gray color and improved thermal performance.
Conventional insulation products focus on minimizing only two of three heat transfer mechanisms, convection and conduction. Graphite EPS minimizes all three of heat transfer mechanism, including radiation.
The embedded graphite particles serve as a coating on the walls of each cell causing radiant energy to be reflected many times as it moves through the insulation. The reflected energy has to travel through twists and turns, which takes more time than going in a more linear path.
Not only does graphite EPS saves on energy once installed in a building but also during manufacturing. Graphite EPS can be manufactured with lower steam pressure which results in reduced energy usage due to lower cycle times. In addition, it has excellent dimensional stability and better fusion increasing manufacturing efficiency.
Due to its light weight and job site durability, installers can easily handle SilveRboard® which results in a lesser breakage rate compared to other products.
