Amvic Recieves Non-Combustible Construction Approval

Amvic Inc. has received confirmation from ICC Evaluation Service, Inc. (ICC-ES) that its Amvic ICF complies with the provisions of the following codes;

  • 2003 International Building Code
  • 2003 International Residential Code
  • BOCA National Building Code 1999
  • 1999 Standard Building Code?
  • 1997 Uniform Building CodeTM

This confirmation, as evidenced in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1269, provides guidance to code officials faced with approving the use of Amvic ICF under these codes. The evaluation report is also available online at http://www.icc-es.org/.

This latest evaluation report from ICC-ES will now officially replace Amvic's old reports namely;

  • BOCA IER report No. 21.95
  • ICBO ES report No.ER-5948
  • SBCCI PST & ESI report No. 2212

An important revision made to our latest ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1269 is section 4.2.7 which includes details for the use of Amvic ICF in buildings required to be on non-combustible construction.

Habitat for Humanity

Congressman Blunt sponsors ICF Construction for Habitat for Humanity - September 6, 2003


On Saturday, September 6th, U.S. Congressman and House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) and his corps of volunteers erected the walls of a new Habitat for Humanity home, which utilized the latest in disaster-resistant and energy-efficient Amvic ICF technology. They assisted in this effort by volunteers from the management team of Diversified Plastics, Nixa MO, the co-manufacturer and co-donor with AMVIC Inc. A team from Carter-Waters Construction Materials, another major donor, also volunteered labor and building expertise. The home is located in northwest Springfield, MO.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, volunteer driven organization dedicated to the concept of home-ownership for low-income families. These families provide their own labor in the home's construction, in lieu of down-payment.

Amvic Adds Director of Sales to Management Team

Gary Brown joins Amvic with more than 25 years of sales and marketing experience. He spent 20 years with General Electric working in various positions in the major Appliance Division. These positions included Regional Sales Manager, Brand Marketing Manager, National Sales Manager and Director of Builder Sales. Gary was involved with many types of business customers from independent distributors to the largest National retail and distribution chains.

Following his experience at GE, Gary was General Manager of an International Furniture manufacture involved in the distribution and marketing of both office and home furniture.

His most recent position was Vice President Sales North America with a Foam Insulation Manufacturer serving the building industry.

Gary has extensive knowledge with sales, distribution and Marketing within the building industry in North America, along with expertise in the management of sales and marketing teams.

In June 2005, Amvic introduced "EPS reinforcement" (patent pending) This is a new technology using a similar approach as concrete reinforcement with steel rebar. This design uses an EPS reinforcing bar that is inserted in the 90 degree corners of our 8" block, ensuring the strongest corner block on the market is even stronger and virtually eliminating any EPS separation. Once again Amvic is reinforcing our reputation with unmatched strength and innovation in the ICF industry.

Amvic is very pleased to be co-sponsoring the Peterson Project with REHAU. This "Sustainable Home" open house is being held on September 19th and 20th and is located in West Pasco, Washington. Amvic and REHAU have combined their efforts to exhibit products that focus on sustainable construction such as energy efficient insulating concrete form walls, and energy efficient in-floor heating and window and door systems. Mr. Keith Peterson is a senior research scientist for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and a certified Sustainable building design Advisor. Mr. Peterson and his wife saw the design and constriction of their new home as an opportunity to apply energy efficient and environmentally sustainable principles that Keith has been promoting in his professional life.

Amvic is proud to announce that it has completed the addition of 15,000 sq.-ft. of manufacturing space. A new, state-of-the-art block molding machine along with a cutting line have been added in this space and are fully operational. The new machine will be producing flat insulation and decorative shapes to augment Amvic's ICF manufacturing capabilities. This raises Amvic's total manufacturing area to 48,000 sq.-ft.

In response to consumer demand and Amvic's commitment to have North America's number one insulating concrete form, Amvic has begun production of its new 6 and 8 inch cavity reversible ICF. This form features an incomparable, superior, interlocking system that allows it to be stacked easily into the wall regardless of which side is up. Its new full-length webs also have duplicate rebar holders. Contractors will no longer have to look for left and right corner blocks, since corners are simply flipped to stagger the interlock system. Currently the new 6 and 8 inch reversible ICFs will be available only from Amvic's Toronto manufacturing facility.

Amvic has received Ruling from the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. The Ruling Number is 02-02-89 and can be downloaded here. (Adobe Acrobat required). Ontario's Building Code Act of 1992 empowers the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to makes Rulings approving the use of innovative materials, systems or building designs evaluated by a materials evaluation body designated in the Ontario Building Code (OBC). A Ruling of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing is based on an Evaluation Report by the CCMC and entitles a person to use, in the manner approved, the material, system, or building design, in all of Ontario, unless the Ruling states otherwise.
