Overview

Stantec Consulting Ltd. was commissioned by Amvic to provide an outline of the anticipated energy savings using insulated concrete form construction (ICF) for a typical 2,000 sq.ft. home (residential study), a school (institutional study) and a warehouse (industrial study).

For each study three methods of construction were assessed in order to determine the method that would require the least amount of energy annually for heating and cooling.  In all cases, using Amvic resulted in reduced consumption and cost savings.

Residential Study

Methods of Construction Evaluated:

1.  Typical Wood Frame Construction
2.  Amvic ICF Exterior Walls with Wood Frame Roof
3.  Amvic ICF Exterior Walls with AmDeck Roof

Results:  An Amvic ICF and AmDeck structure requires approximatley 39% less energy annually for heating and cooling that traditional construction, resulting in considerable cost savings. View the detailed .pdf report.

Institutional Study

Methods of Construction Evaluated:

1.  Traditional School Construction designed to USGBC LEED Gold Standard
2.  Amvic ICF Exterior Walls with Traditional School Roof Construction
3.  Amvic ICF Exterior Walls with AmDeck Roof

Results:  An Amvic ICF and AmDeck institutional structure requires approximatley 18% less energy annually for heating and cooling than traditional construction (designed to LEED Gold standards)*, resulting in considerable cost savings. View the detailed .pdf report.

*Results compared to standard construction could be expected to be considerably higher.

Industrial Study

Methods of Construction Evaluated:

1.  Tilt-up Walls
2.  Concrete Block Walls
3.  Amvic ICF Walls

Results:  The ICF Amvic walls reduce the heat loss by 77% over the tilt-up walls and 42% over the concrete block walls. This relates to an approximate savings of $4,400 annually over the tilt-up walls and $1,000 annually over the concrete block walls.  View the detailed .pdf report.
